Texas DL-7C Section 14 - Special Requirements
The March 2026 DL-7C Section 14 contains Texas-specific commercial-vehicle requirements. A vehicle and load may not exceed 14 feet in height or 102 inches in width under the general limits. The general maximum gross weight is 80,000 pounds, subject to exceptions and permits. Without a special permit, a load may extend no more than 3 feet beyond the front or 4 feet beyond the rear. Out-of-state registration is recognized for 30 days after Texas residency or employment. Safety guidance recommends a 4-second open-road following gap, 6-8 seconds in bad weather, and at least 6 feet when passing a two-wheeled vehicle. Slow-moving vehicles are those designed to operate at 25 mph or less and require the appropriate emblem.
