Set rules before movement
Teach students to remain seated, keep aisles clear, follow crossing instructions, avoid distracting the driver, and respect emergency equipment. Repeat expectations consistently and use age-appropriate language.
Driving comes first
Do not turn around, leave the seat, or engage in an argument while the bus is moving. Use a clear verbal direction and, if behavior threatens safety, pull over at a suitable location and secure the bus before further action.
Escalation levels
Distinguish ordinary noise from conduct that threatens safe operation, violence, weapons, bullying, medical distress, or evacuation. Use dispatch, school staff, guardians, or law enforcement according to policy and urgency.
Avoid unsafe punishment
