Adverse weather

Route obstruction
Do not improvise a turn, backing maneuver, low-clearance path, weight-restricted road, or unauthorized student stop. Stop safely and obtain approved routing. Use a spotter and GOAL when an authorized backing maneuver is unavoidable.
Breakdown
Move out of traffic when possible, secure the bus, activate warnings, contact dispatch, assess location hazards, and decide whether students are safer aboard or evacuated. Place warning devices as required without exposing students to traffic.

Medical or behavioral crisis
Stop before assisting. Contact emergency services for serious symptoms or threats, follow student plans and training, keep other students controlled, and protect privacy. Do not administer treatment outside authorization and competence.
Threat or suspicious item
Do not touch suspicious items or confront an armed or dangerous person. Follow emergency communication and evacuation/lockdown direction, give exact location and description, and move students only toward a safer area.
Scenario
Floodwater covers the approved route. The driver stops before the water and contacts dispatch for an authorized alternative. The driver does not test depth with a loaded school bus or use an unfamiliar low-clearance detour.
