Section 10M identifies the items that must be inspected for the applicable Class A, B, C, passenger, school-bus, and combination vehicle. The applicant may use the official checklist but may not add markings or writing. Components on the vehicle may not be labeled as memory aids.

Identify the component, explain why its condition matters, and state the inspection result using component-specific language. Mounted and secure, no damage, no leaks, proper color, correct operation, and adequate clearance are useful only where they describe the actual item. Vague claims such as 'everything is good' do not demonstrate knowledge.

Air or hydraulic brake checks, parking/trailer brake checks, and the service-brake check must be performed using the correct sequence. Section 10M marks critical brake checks as automatic-failure items when not performed correctly. Secure the vehicle, follow examiner instructions, and stop if a result is outside the permitted standard.

Passenger entry, lift, exits, seating, monitoring devices, school-bus student lights, stop and safety arms, combination connections, fifth wheel or hitch, landing gear, lights, lenses, fluids, steering, axles, wheels, suspension, brakes, fuel/DEF, frames, reflectors, and rear condition are included as applicable. Follow a fixed route so no required region is omitted.
