Oklahoma CDL Oklahoma School Bus and Passenger Credentialing

A passenger vehicle designed for 16 or more people including the driver requires the appropriate base CDL and P endorsement. A school bus also requires S. P and S require their knowledge tests and a representative-vehicle skills test; an S applicant studies both Passenger and School Bus material.

A first-time P or S applicant completes the applicable ELDT before the skills test, obtains the P or S CLP after the written tests, and holds it for 14 full days. The P restriction prohibits ordinary passenger service during training.

Before driving for an accredited Oklahoma school, the driver must hold the proper CDL with P and S, satisfy drug and alcohol testing, health and waiver requirements, background and driving-record checks, complete approved school-bus training, and be registered in the Oklahoma school-bus driver system.

The Oklahoma skills-test SOP identifies safety-critical failures including failing to activate amber warning lights, failing to set the parking brake or shift to neutral, directing students with a hand outside the bus, and failing the final crossover-mirror check before moving.
