This commercial driver study guide covers relevant Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) concepts and Oklahoma commercial driver knowledge topics. Review the regulations, procedures, and safety checklists below as part of your CDL and commercial learner permit (CLP) preparation.
Endorsements
Oklahoma uses T for doubles or triples, N for tank vehicles, H for hazardous materials, X for tank plus hazardous materials, P for passenger vehicles, and S for school buses. The vehicle class is determined first; endorsements add specialized authority but do not replace the base class.
CLP endorsements
Only N, P, and S may be placed on a CLP. A P or S learner has a P no-passengers restriction except for specifically permitted examiners, auditors, trainers, and trainees. An N learner receives the X no-cargo-in-tank restriction and may not operate a tank that retains hazardous residue unless it has been purged.
Vehicle-created restrictions
Testing in an automatic vehicle creates E; testing without air brakes creates L; air-over-hydraulic equipment creates Z; a Class A test without the required tractor-trailer configuration creates O; and passenger testing in a smaller vehicle group can create M or N.
Oklahoma restriction list
Service Oklahoma publishes E, K, L, M, N, O, V, and Z for CDLs, with P and X applying to CLPs. Removing a restriction requires the individualized knowledge, permit, equipment, and skills steps prescribed by Service Oklahoma.
Exam focus
Apply the rule to the exact Oklahoma vehicle, credential, date, trip, test stage, and operating facts. Current Service Oklahoma pages and procedures control when an older generic manual sentence conflicts with a newer official requirement.
Commercial Driver License Exam Readiness: Achieving a passing grade of 80% or higher on state DMV commercial driver knowledge exams requires mastery of federal vehicle inspection procedures, gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR / GCWR), braking mechanics, and road safety regulations.
