Oklahoma CDL Classes, Eligibility, and Exemptions

Class A applies to a combination rated 26,001 pounds or more when the towed unit is rated above 10,000 pounds. Class B covers a single vehicle rated 26,001 pounds or more and such a vehicle towing 10,000 pounds or less. Class C applies below those weight thresholds when the vehicle is designed for 16 or more people including the driver or carries placardable hazardous material.

An Oklahoma applicant may apply for a Class A, B, or C CLP at age 18. Interstate commercial operation and a hazardous-materials endorsement require age 21. A driver who does not qualify for interstate authority is restricted to intrastate operation with the K restriction.

A first-time applicant normally holds a valid Oklahoma Class D license and supplies identity, lawful-presence, Social Security number, and Oklahoma-residency evidence. An out-of-state Class D credential must first be transferred. Non-domiciled issuance is a separate, tightly controlled process governed by current federal eligibility and Service Oklahoma documentation rules.

Federal and Oklahoma rules recognize limited operations such as qualifying military, emergency, farm, custom-harvesting, recreational, and government activity. Each exception depends on the exact operator, ownership, vehicle, cargo, distance, and use; it does not create general authority for unrelated commercial work.
