Endorsements
Ohio uses H for hazardous materials, T for doubles or triples, P for passenger, N for tank, S for school bus, and X for tank plus hazardous materials. The base class is selected from the vehicle before endorsements are added.
CLP limits
Ohio permits N, P, and S on a CLP subject to federal operating restrictions. P and S training does not authorize ordinary passenger service, and an N learner may not carry cargo in the tank. HazMat operating authority is not available on a CLP.
Vehicle-created restrictions
Testing in an automatic vehicle creates E; without air brakes creates L; with air-over-hydraulic or a partial system creates Z; and a Class A combination without a fifth-wheel tractor-trailer creates O. Passenger testing in a smaller group can create M or N.
Ohio operating restrictions
Ohio uses E, K, L, M, N, O, V, W, and Z on CDLs, plus P and X learner restrictions. P4 limits the holder to a Class C school bus designed for fewer than 16 people including the driver. Removing a vehicle-created restriction requires the prescribed permit, knowledge test when applicable, and a representative skills-test vehicle.
