Mississippi CDL Endorsements and Restrictions

Mississippi uses T for doubles or triples, N for tank vehicles, H for hazardous materials, X for tank plus hazardous materials, P for passenger vehicles, and S for school buses. Determine the base class first; an endorsement adds specialized authority but never replaces Class A, B, or C.

Only N, P, and S may be added to a CLP. A P or S learner receives the P no-passengers restriction except for the narrowly permitted examiners, auditors, trainers, and trainees. An N learner receives the X restriction and may not carry tank cargo; a tank that previously held hazardous material must be purged before learner operation.

Testing in an automatic CMV creates E; failing to qualify with full air brakes creates L; testing with air-over-hydraulic brakes creates Z; a Class A test without a qualifying tractor-trailer connection can create O; and testing for passengers in a smaller vehicle group can create M or N.

K limits operation to intrastate commerce and V records a medical variance. Read every restriction printed on the credential and resolve it through the required knowledge, permit, equipment, medical, or skills process before operating outside its limits.

Mississippi HME applicants complete fingerprinting and enrollment through TSA Universal Enrollment Services rather than local DPS CDL stations, pass the H knowledge test, and maintain an acceptable TSA security threat assessment.
