Mississippi CDL Disqualifications and Reporting Duties

Operating a CMV at 0.04 percent BAC or more is illegal. A first major offense normally causes at least one year of disqualification, or at least three years when the offense occurs while transporting hazardous material that requires placards.

A second major offense can produce lifetime disqualification, and using a vehicle to commit a felony involving manufacture, distribution, or dispensing of a controlled substance produces lifetime disqualification without the ordinary reinstatement path.

Two serious traffic violations within three years normally produce at least 60 days; three produce at least 120 days. Railroad-highway crossing violations escalate from at least 60 days to 120 days and then one year for a third within three years.

Notify the employer within 30 days of a qualifying traffic conviction and within two business days after suspension, revocation, cancellation, or disqualification. Other licensing-state and employment-history duties may also apply.

A medical downgrade is different from a criminal disqualification but still removes commercial authority until the electronic record and applicable reinstatement requirements are satisfied. Mississippi's fee page lists a separate medical-downgrade reinstatement charge.
