Missouri CDL Missouri Passenger and School Bus Qualification

A commercial school-bus operator needs the proper CDL class plus P and S endorsements. The applicant passes passenger and school-bus written tests, obtains the corresponding CLP, holds it at least 14 days, and passes the skills test in a school bus from the same vehicle group. Missouri also performs the school-bus driving-history review.

Missouri school-bus authority is issued at age 21 or older. S may be placed on a CLP for training after the required written exams, but the learner may not transport ordinary passengers or students. The supervising driver and vehicle must satisfy the permit's class, endorsement, and restriction requirements.

A public-school pupil transporter must have an employer-held medical statement before initial operation and on a biennial basis. That employer or school-district record is separate from the CDL medical self-certification and registry-based MEC requirements. Satisfying one does not automatically satisfy the other.

Missouri requires at least eight hours of special school-bus instruction annually for drivers transporting public-school pupils, with the employer or district responsible for verification. Fingerprint-based background-check processing is coordinated through the local school district and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education rather than replaced by the CDL transaction.

A school-bus endorsement holder age 75 or older must provide a school-bus skills-test result at renewal to retain S. The vehicle-inspection portion is waived for this biennial renewal retest, while basic controls and on-road portions remain. License and skills-test fees are waived, but the $9 office-processing fee still applies.
