Missouri CDL Missouri Modernized CDL Skills Test and Appointment Process

The applicant must hold the appropriate issued CLP for at least 14 days, complete all applicable ELDT, and have a usable electronic verification in the Training Provider Registry. Skills testing is by appointment through Missouri State Highway Patrol sites or a certified third-party tester. Required credentials and the representative vehicle must be present and valid.

Missouri's skills examination consists of Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control Skills, and On-Road Driving. Each segment depends on safe performance in the preceding segment. The inspection uses the current checklist and safety explanations; the control segment measures precision and boundary control; the road test measures lawful, observant operation in real traffic.

Missouri adopted the modernized CDL skills model for every test administered on or after December 4, 2023. Current Sections 11M and 12M govern the inspection and control work. Old 2005-system diagrams and legacy exercises are not the current Missouri test model.

The modernized control sequence includes Forward Stop, Straight-Line Backing, Forward Offset Tracking, and Reverse Offset Backing. Scoring considers pull-ups or back-ups where applicable, encroachments, permitted looks, final position, instructions, and unsafe acts. The parking brake, neutral position, and horn completion signal are part of the published procedure.

A passing skills result is taken with the current license, CLP, and required evidence to a Missouri license office for final eligibility and driver-history checks. The applicant cannot operate on the test result alone. The final credential may carry restrictions created by the vehicle used for testing.

Separate the nationally shared operating rule from the Missouri transaction rule. On an exam or at an office, apply the exact class, endorsement, restriction, document, fee, date, medical status, vehicle, and testing condition stated in the current Missouri source.
