Missouri CDL Endorsements and Restriction Codes

H authorizes placarded hazardous materials after the knowledge, ELDT, and TSA requirements. N covers qualifying tank vehicles, T covers doubles and triples, P covers passenger vehicles, S covers school buses and requires the passenger path, and X combines tank and hazardous-material authority. The base CDL class still must match the vehicle's weight group.

Missouri allows the S school-bus endorsement on a CLP after the applicable written tests. H, X, and T are not permitted on the CLP. Passenger and school-bus permit operation remains restricted to supervised training and testing; carrying ordinary passengers or students is not authorized merely because the letter appears on the permit.

The vehicle used for the skills test can create restrictions for automatic transmission, air brakes, tractor-trailer configuration, passenger vehicle type, or other equipment. A representative vehicle must match the class and privilege sought. Testing in a less capable configuration may produce a valid CDL that still cannot operate the intended equipment.

A driver under 21 is restricted to intrastate authority. Medical self-certification and a variance may create record restrictions even when every code is not printed in the same way on the physical credential. A CLP is invalid unless accompanied by the required Missouri base license and supervised by a properly licensed CDL holder positioned to give instruction.

Removing a skills-based restriction normally requires the appropriate knowledge, permit, vehicle, and skills-test path. Adding P, S, or H for the first time triggers ELDT, and H or X also requires the security process. Do not promise that renewal alone removes a limitation; identify the specific restriction and the demonstration required to remove it.

Separate the nationally shared operating rule from the Missouri transaction rule. On an exam or at an office, apply the exact class, endorsement, restriction, document, fee, date, medical status, vehicle, and testing condition stated in the current Missouri source.
