Use turn signals, brake lights, horn, four-way flashers, and lane position early enough that other road users can understand the intended movement.

Use the horn when it can prevent a conflict, not as punishment. A brief warning is most useful before another road user enters the path or when visibility blocks direct confirmation.

If stopped where the vehicle may be a hazard, activate flashers and place warning devices at the distances and direction required by roadway type and visibility.

Before and during backing, agree on hand signals with the helper, keep the helper visible, stop immediately when visual contact is lost, and use the horn when required by the situation.
