Indiana CDL Skills Test Scheduling, Vehicle, Results, and Failure Rules

Indiana's CDL skills examination consists of the Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test, and Road Test. The applicant must demonstrate safe performance in the required sequence and comply with examiner instructions throughout all three segments.

The applicant must hold the CLP for at least 14 days and schedule the skills test through a BMV-authorized third-party examiner at least two days in advance. Availability and provider charges are separate from state credential issuance.

The applicant supplies a safe, properly registered, insured, and representative CMV for the requested class, endorsements, brake system, and transmission authority. Testing in a smaller passenger group or with limited equipment can place restrictions on the CDL.

Indiana allows one skills-test attempt per business day. Failing any part or committing an unsafe act ends the full test; the applicant must reschedule and pay the testing provider again before a new attempt.

Indiana skills-test results are valid for one year. After passing, the applicant must visit a BMV branch and complete issuance before the CLP expires; a third-party score sheet is not itself the CDL credential.
