Georgia CDL Georgia Modernized CDL Skills Test

Georgia DDS announced on June 16, 2026 that the transition to modernized CDL testing had been completed statewide. The current test remains three parts—Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control Skills, and On-Road Driving—but the first two parts use the modernized national format.

The modernized inspection focuses on the safety-critical items on the official checklist. The applicant may follow the checklist order but may not add markings or notes, and must name, point to or touch, and fully explain what is being inspected and why.

Use wheel chocks during the inspection when directed, set the parking brake and place the transmission in neutral before leaving the seat, and maintain three points of contact when entering or exiting. A dangerous act or failure to follow examiner instructions can end the test.

The Basic Control Skills test uses Forward Stop, Straight-Line Backing, Forward Offset Tracking, and Reverse Offset Backing. Scoring considers pull-ups or direction changes, looks, boundary encroachments, and final position.
