Who needs ELDT
ELDT applies before the skills test for a first Class A or B CDL, a Class B-to-A upgrade, and first-time P or S endorsements; first-time H applicants complete the applicable ELDT theory before the HazMat knowledge test. Training must come from a registered provider.
Training components
Class and passenger or school-bus programs include theory and behind-the-wheel instruction appropriate to the credential. HazMat ELDT is theory training. Georgia still administers the required knowledge, vehicle-inspection, control-skills, and road tests.
Military waiver
Active-duty, Guard, Reserve, and recently separated qualifying military drivers may apply for Georgia's Military Skills Test Waiver when their military operation demonstrates the required representative experience. The guide identifies a one-year separation window.
Limits of waiver
The waiver applies to the skills test when its conditions are met; it does not automatically waive knowledge exams, HazMat security requirements, medical qualification, fees, or an endorsement-specific test that is outside the waiver.
