Georgia CDL Georgia CLP Application, Transfer, and Supervised Practice

Complete the Georgia DDS application, establish identity and residency, self-certify the intended commerce category, satisfy medical requirements when applicable, pay the required fees, and pass the knowledge modules for the class and endorsements sought. A Class A or B applicant must already hold the appropriate underlying Georgia driver license.

A Georgia CLP is valid for no more than 365 days. The holder may not take the CDL skills test during the first 14 days after initial issuance; changing CLP class or adding P, S, or N restarts the initial-issuance timing described by DDS.

The CLP holder must carry the valid base license and be directly supervised by a driver with the proper CDL class and endorsements. The supervisor sits beside the learner, or directly behind or in the first row behind the learner in a passenger vehicle, and keeps the learner under observation.

A current out-of-state CDL is exchanged through a Georgia application and fees. A verified unexpired TSA threat assessment may preserve H; otherwise the HazMat knowledge examination is required. A higher class, new endorsement, or removal of a test-vehicle restriction triggers the corresponding knowledge and/or skills requirements.
