This commercial driver study guide covers relevant Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) concepts and Georgia commercial driver knowledge topics. Review the regulations, procedures, and safety checklists below as part of your CDL and commercial learner permit (CLP) preparation.
Endorsements
Georgia uses P for passenger, S for school bus, N for tank, T for doubles/triples, H for hazardous materials, X for tank plus hazardous materials, and C for qualifying for-hire authority. The endorsement never replaces the required base CDL class.
CLP limits
P and S may be placed on a Georgia CLP with operating limits, and N requires the X no-cargo-in-tank restriction while training. T, H, and X HazMat operating authority require a valid CDL rather than a CLP.
Vehicle-created restrictions
Testing in an automatic vehicle creates E; without air brakes creates L; with air-over-hydraulic or a partial system creates Z; and a Class A combination without a fifth-wheel tractor-trailer creates O. Passenger testing in a smaller group can create M or N.
Operating restrictions
K limits operation to intrastate commerce, P prohibits passengers in the training bus, X prohibits cargo in the training tank, V identifies a medical variance, and Y requires a hearing aid. Restriction removal normally requires a new CLP where applicable and retesting in a vehicle that does not create the restriction.
Exam focus
Apply the rule to the exact Georgia vehicle, credential, date, trip, test stage, and operating facts in the question. Current Georgia DDS rules and notices control when an older handbook sentence conflicts with a newer official requirement.
Commercial Driver License Exam Readiness: Achieving a passing grade of 80% or higher on state DMV commercial driver knowledge exams requires mastery of federal vehicle inspection procedures, gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR / GCWR), braking mechanics, and road safety regulations.
