Use the current course
Florida's current skills exercises, boundaries, scoring, and instructions can differ from older tests. Study the current supplement and examiner briefing. Do not build practice around an old alley-dock diagram unless it remains part of the current test.
Encroachments
An encroachment occurs when the vehicle touches or crosses a boundary, cone, line, or other defined limit under current scoring. Track the entire vehicle, including mirrors, tires, overhang, trailer offtracking, and tail swing.
Pull-ups
A pull-up is a forward correction during backing. Use it before alignment becomes unrecoverable. Pull-ups may carry scoring consequences, but a controlled correction is safer than continuing into a boundary. Know the current allowance and scoring.
Outside looks
Use only permitted outside looks, secure the vehicle exactly as instructed, and maintain three points of contact. A look is for checking position and clearance, not moving cones, touching boundaries, or receiving unauthorized coaching.
Final position and signals
Stop within the defined final zone, straighten as required, secure the vehicle, and signal completion to the examiner. Do not continue making corrections after declaring the maneuver complete.
Safety overrides points
A collision, uncontrolled movement, examiner intervention, unsafe exit, or other automatic-failure action is more serious than ordinary point deductions. Stop whenever a person, vehicle, or condition enters the course unexpectedly.
Scenario
The trailer begins approaching a boundary. The applicant uses an allowed pull-up, resets alignment, and completes safely. Accepting a scoring point is better than striking the boundary or losing control.
