Arkansas CDL Knowledge Testing, Fees, and Retest Rules

All applicants take General Knowledge and add Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Passenger, School Bus, Tank, Doubles/Triples, and Hazardous Materials modules as required by the intended vehicle and endorsement. Federal standards require at least 80 percent correct and at least 30 items on the basic knowledge test.

Arkansas State Police administers CDL written tests at all troop testing sites and provides statewide online scheduling. An appointment is strongly recommended, but the applicant must still arrive with the valid Arkansas license, current CDL-1 form, and proof of legal presence.

The currently published State Police CDL rules describe a $50 original application for testing and a $10 additional application after a failed knowledge section or endorsement knowledge test. These testing charges are distinct from the current five-year CDL credential fee and must be rechecked when purchasing the CDL-1 packet.

The published Arkansas CDL testing rules require a one-day waiting period after failing a knowledge section before retesting. Purchasing another application does not remove the waiting period.

Arkansas does not publish a complete current live module-by-module question count on its CDL pages. The application's 50-, 25-, and 20-question modules are internal practice configurations, not a claim that the live Arkansas form uses the same distribution.
