Arkansas CDL Endorsements and Restrictions

Arkansas uses H for hazardous materials, N for tank vehicles, P for passenger vehicles, S for school buses, T for doubles or triples, and X for combined tank and hazardous-material authority. An endorsement adds specialized authority but never substitutes for the correct Class A, B, or C base license.

Only N, P, and S may be added to a CLP. A P or S learner may not carry ordinary passengers; the narrow exceptions are authorized examiners, auditors, the supervising driver, trainers, and other trainees. An N learner receives the X no-cargo restriction and may use only an empty tank; a tank that held hazardous material must be purged of residue.

An automatic-transmission test can create E; lack of full-air-brake qualification can create L; air-over-hydraulic testing can create Z; a Class A test without a qualifying tractor-trailer connection can create O; and passenger testing in a smaller group can create M or N. The chosen test vehicle determines the authority demonstrated.

K means intrastate only, V identifies a medical variance, W limits the holder to a seasonal farm-service vehicle, and restriction 7 limits a restricted CDL to specified diesel-fuel and fertilizer loads. Arkansas also lists B, C, D, G, J, and 6 for vision, aid, daylight, other, and noncommercial passenger limits.

Arkansas State Police publishes separate procedures for removing E, L, and O restrictions. The driver may need a new permit or test packet and must demonstrate the missing equipment or vehicle configuration; simply requesting a duplicate credential does not prove the skill.
