Four-exercise format
Arkansas uses Forward Stop, Straight-Line Backing, Forward Offset Tracking, and Reverse Offset Backing. Scoring considers pull-ups, looks, encroachments, final position, and unsafe acts. The inspection must be passed before control skills, and control skills before the road test.
Forward Offset continuous motion
Effective October 1, 2025, Arkansas requires Forward Offset Tracking to be one continuous motion without stopping. The driver is not allowed to stop, back up, or exit during that exercise; stopping ends the exercise.
Forward Offset scoring
Hitting either side's cones is scored at two points. Missing the three-foot line is scored at five points. If any part of the right rear tire tread is between the cone and the three-foot line, no points are recorded for that clearance; the back of the CMV must pass the Forward Stop Box by three to four feet.
Reverse Offset starting alignment
Before Reverse Offset Backing begins, the vehicle must be parallel with the outer boundary. If it is not parallel, pull-ups used to correct the starting position are charged to the Reverse Offset exercise.
Completion and safety
At completion, secure the vehicle, shift to neutral or park, set the parking brake, and sound the horn as directed. Follow examiner signals immediately; loss of safe control, an unsafe act, or prohibited movement can end the test regardless of point totals.
