Alabama CDL Alabama Transfer, Renewal, Medical Restoration, and Re-Examination

A CDL transfer applicant presents the current out-of-state license, Social Security verification, two Alabama residence proofs, and a primary identity document. The prior credential and commercial record remain subject to state and federal checks.

Transferring H or X authority requires the applicable TSA background check and Alabama transaction requirements. Security approval, medical status, lawful permanent status where applicable, and domicile must all be acceptable.

ALEA's current renewal form lists $66.25 for Class A, $56.25 for Class B, and $36.25 for Class C. A renewal fee does not preserve an expired medical qualification, variance, TSA determination, or other supporting authority.

When an electronic medical record caused a downgrade, correct required information from the medical examiner can restore the Alabama commercial privilege without a reinstatement charge. The holder must confirm that the record actually changed before commercial operation.

ALEA states that re-examination is required when an Alabama CDL has been expired for more than three years. This is different from correcting a recent electronic medical-record problem or replacing a physical credential.
