Alabama CDL Alabama ELDT and Military CDL Skills Waiver

ELDT applies to a first Class A or Class B CDL, an upgrade from Class B to Class A, and a first P, S, or H endorsement. The training must come from a provider listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry.

The required ELDT record must be available before the applicable state skills test for Class A, Class B, P, or S. First-time H theory must be recorded before the hazardous-material knowledge test.

A currently licensed service member or a person employed within the past 12 months in a military transportation unit operating a military vehicle equivalent to a CMV may apply for Alabama's military skills waiver.

The Alabama military program waives only the skills portion when approved. The applicant still completes required knowledge tests, CLP and identity transactions, medical qualification, endorsements, and final credential purchase.

ALEA directs the applicant to request the military waiver form at a CDL testing office when taking the knowledge tests. Missing official certification or an unsuitable military vehicle record can prevent approval.
